My first stock purchase was actually recommended by my dad. If I can still remember faintly, at the time, I had just opened a brokerage with TD Waterhouse but knew nothing about investing. However, I was thinking about how all the baby boomers are retiring soon and will demand more medical care. So, I casually shot an email to my dad asking for some healthcare companies to invest in.
He recommended me Johnson and Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) and luckily I had just enough saved up for 100 shares at a market price of around $58-$59 a share.
After multiple years of dividends and capital appreciation, my first stock purchase turned out quite well.
